If you think of Romantic holidays with your loved one, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably sharing a bottle of red in an Italian restaurant or splitting baguette in front of the Eiffel Tower.

However, did you know there are destinations teeming with romance on our very doorstep? So why not surprise your loved one this Valentine's Day with a cheeky weekend getaway. You can take advantage of Travelodge discount codes so you'll have even more to spend when you get there.

1. Blackpool

Blackpool is not the first place you would think of when it comes to romance - I usually think of raging night out and a hell of a headache the following day. However, this beach town can be ideal for you and your S.O. Start at the seaside theme park where you can comfort each other on the rollercoasters and play one of the many sideshow games. Before walking down the promenade and sitting by the sea sharing probably one of the best fish and chips you'll ever have. Then either go back to the hotel or go out and hit the town because, lets face it, Blackpool is a great night out.

2. Scarborough

How’s your Sunday been? If you’re in the UK did you notice the difference of the hour going back? 🎑 Here’s a fabulous photo of Robin Hood’s Bay, a North Yorkshire fishing village 🎣 Interestingly, the name’s origin is uncertain & not likely to be linked to the actual Robin Hood!...However there is an old English legend that tells the story of him encountering French pirates & taking their loot off them to give back to the poor villagers of this very place, so it may well be possible! 💚 Gorgeously captured by @yorkshire_pudding ✨ - - - - - #beautifulbritain #uklove #england🇬🇧 #ukvillage #ukfishing #fishingvillage #fishingvillages #britishvillage #instabritain #gloriousbritain #visitbritain #brilliantbritain #uklover #iguk #ukig #visitengland #englandlife #northengland #yorkshire_lovers #visityorkshire #yorkshirecoast #northyorkshire #scarboroughuk #whitby #whitbybay #robinhoodsbay #oldvillage #oldvillages #scenicphotography #scenicphotos

Scarborough is one of the most picturesque towns in the North East. The coastal town is steeped in history. You can take in the scenery by taking a romantic stroll through town, visit Scarborough Castle, take a boat ride in Peasholm Park, or meet some penguins at the Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary.

3. Harrogate

Harrogate is a little-known spa town in the middle of Yorkshire. Take a stroll through the town's cobbles streets and discover some of the excellent bars and restaurants. But the real draw card for this town is the Turkish Baths. Couples can book a whole day of pampering and relaxing at this world-class spa.

4. Stoke-on-Trent

Stoke-on-Trent was once a largely industrial town. But its history was also full of artistic greatness. Today, this city is seeing its roots reemerge. The people there have a love for all things creative. You can enjoy making some pottery together or see one of the cities many performing arts shows. Maybe even take a bike ride along the Trent and Mersey Canal.

5. Sheffield

Sheffield is known by the locals as “The Outdoor City.” This adventurous little town has lots of trails to explore and some good boulder climbing if you’re feeling up for it. Inside the city there are also plenty of things to do. You can visit one of the many microbreweries, attend the local arts shows, or just sit and listen to some good live music.

6. Holyhead

Holyhead is a port city on the coast of Wales. Known mostly for being the ferry port that takes you to our Irish neighbours, the town itself beautiful to visit itself. If you like outdoor activities, Holyhead offers golfing, fishing, and sailing. You’ll find plenty of things to do there and be able to relax and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery.

7. Liverpool

Whilst the football rivalry with our Scouse neighbours is rife - you can't deny the city itself is beautiful. Only a short (and cheap) train ride from Victoria Station and you can visit the city that gave the world The Beatles. If you’re a music enthusiast, this city is a cool place for a romantic getaway. But it has a lot more to offer. Couples can also visit the Walker Art Gallery and take in the stunning beauty of the Liverpool Cathedral. On top of that, there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from too.

I for one am now convinced that the UK is actually the most romantic destination in Europe.
