Now school’s out for (another) summer, and the good weather seems to be continuing, the Great Northern has launched a huge family-friendly sandpit to keep the kids entertained over the holidays.
Housed in the basin of the iconic amphitheater, the fun and free community sandpit is open for six weeks with 50 tonnes of beach-washed sand and logs to enjoy.
As the epicenter of the city’s world-famous industrial heritage, the Great Northern’s sandpit hopes to revive the city’s historic tradition of creating free and safe play areas for children to play outdoors.
“Whether shaped into castles, dug, sifted, or buried, sand offers endless opportunities for fun and learning,” said a spokesperson for the event.
And when the sun goes in, you’ve always got the option to catch a flick at the Great Northern (we’ve got our eye on the Incredibles 2) or feast on one of Almost Famous’ craziest creations – loaded with the likes of rich chipotle brisket, beer-battered onion rings, aaaaalllll manner of sauces and of course the famous whopper patties.
Mark Schofield, Centre Director for Great Northern says:
“We’re thrilled to launch this exciting addition to the Great Northern’s family offering this summer and really looking forward to welcoming children to enjoy safe, free play over the school holidays.”
The new sandpit is open until the end of August – enjoy 😉
