Following a vegan or plant-based diet has become increasingly popular over the past few years. For either health or ethical reasons, people are trying to cut out or cut down on their meat intake. I for one, as a fully-fledged meat eater, am trying to cut down on my meat consumption in an effort to eat healthier as well as reducing my carbon footprint.
This is why, it’s so exciting when new plant-based restaurants pop-up as it makes it way more accessible for us to grab a healthy, veggie packed meal – that’s also full of flavour.
Plant-based cafe, Vertigo, is the latest Vegan restaurant to pop up. We wrote about them when they opened earlier this year, excited at the prospect of being able to grab a quick and healthy lunch.
Now they have gone one better, by introducing a new evening menu and it looks and tastes incredible.
The most exciting addition to the menu is the small plates.
Our favourites were the Buffalo Cauliflower “Wings” and the “Duck” Pancakes (which are actually made with mushroom). Firstly, the Buffalo Wings are spicy, they pack a punch but the deliciously cream vegan ranch dressing perfectly balances this out.
But the real star of the show – The Duck Pancakes. They honestly taste like the real thing – maybe even better if that’s is possible – and this is coming from someone who adores Asian food.
Even if you are a meat eater, you can get around this.
The small plates are perfect as a starter or you can order 3 and have as a main. The main meals are the same as their lunchtime menu, including the popular Persian Stew and Three Bean Chilli which comes with fresh Guac and corn chips.
Now, lets not forget about the best part of the meal – the dessert. Vertigo have created the most delicious Warm Cherry Brownie & Ice Cream. The decadent dessert is the perfect way to end your meal.
If you do choose to come here before the Theatre, which I highly recommend you do, Vertigo have a special Pre-Theatre deal that runs between 5pm and 7pm.
For only £14 you can choose a small plate as a starter, a bowl as a main course and either a glass of house wine, beer or soft drink. Now that’s a bargain.
Check out the video below to get an even better look at their new menu.
