It’s 1950. A young, highly-skilled detective by the name of Harry Dean is shockingly murdered in his own office and YOU have been framed as his killer.
The only way to save yourself from a lifetime in jail is to discover who the REAL murderer is.
You notice the police have left the crime scene – Dean’s office – so you break in to try and find any evidence to prove your innocence.
You only have an hour before the police return and you’re arrested for Harry Dean’s murder.
To solve this murder mystery you will need to use your excellent detective skills and find hidden clues, crack codes and solve multiple puzzles. Only then will it be revealed to you who the real killer is and why they murdered Mr Dean, in turn, saving yourself.
This is the story behind one of Breakout Manchester’s most popular escape rooms – The Detective Office.
Everything from the highly detailed set to the trench coat costumes will transport you into Harry Dean’s world of mystery, murder and intrigue.
We were invited down to the Breakout on Brazennose Street, next to Town Hall, to try out The Detective Office escape room.
Full disclosure – I had never been to an Escape Room before trying this one so I had no idea what to expect.
I’m not going to lie, I assumed I would have a hard time at it. I mean I am REALLY bad at riddles. However, I was completely captivated and drawn into this murder mystery which made finding the clues and solving the puzzles a lot of fun because I really did want to find out who the murder was.
Maybe it is my obsession with Law and Order but being locked in this room for an hour turned me into the detective I was clearly born to be.

If you have never been to an escape room before then this is definitely the one for you. The puzzles are challenging enough that you give the old grey matter a real work out. However, they are not too difficult to the point where you’re going to be stuck in a room for an hour with no idea what to do.
I even think this would be the perfect date night activity, oddly enough. Especially if you’re looking to test you and your partner’s problem solving skills – it can be a real bonding experience.
If you would like to give this room a go, you can book it in by following the link here.
I know I will be back to try out some of their more difficult rooms like the Virus which is sure to make us feel like we’re in a scene from I Am Legend.
