When it comes to Manchester’s suburbs to stun, there are the usual words on everyone’s lips.
Didsbury for leafy green avenues, Chorlton for hip coffee shops and bars, Altrincham for when you have a family and need to space.
But there’s one area of the city which has been overlooked by some as a brilliant spot – closer to the city than any of those, cheaper to buy and live in and yet with all the same access to Manchester’s best bits.
Where is this very heaven, you ask?
Yes, really – if you haven’t looked at it, you don’t know what you’re missing.
New houses, developments and regeneration have changed the face of the area, which is now bustling with young professional workers.
The vibrant, multi-racial community makes it almost a smaller version of Manchester as a whole, and house prices are on the rise to reflect its popularity.
OK, so 15 years ago it was a bit of a crime hotspot and the infamous Crescents housing project was razed to the ground amid its failings.
But now it’s a very different place.
The arts scene is booming, with the Z Arts theatre centre on Stretford Road causing a stir with kids and families.
The former Hippodrome is about to be refurbished into something special, and the Community Garden Centre is a fun and engaging place to spend time and grab a veggie treat from the cafe.
It’s so special that it was even immortalised in a moving poetry project by This Is The Place poet Tony Walsh.
