When it comes to getting away from it all, there’s a world of amazing destinations out there.

And if you’re coupled up and ready for a romp, there are hotels for cosy cuddles, sultry snuggles and even the sort of Red Room action you thought was reserved for 50 Shades (although you might have to bring your own gear).

Here are the places to check in and get shagged out – all on a tank of petrol and 90 minutes each way… ish.

1. In flagrante delicto

The expanse of the Lakes is something special to behold – and Gilpin Hotel And Lake House in the Lake District will give you a reason to draw the curtains and hang out sexy-style.

The luxurious and secluded Lake House has six suites sharing 100 acres of private grounds with its own lake and pool, a spa treatment room and wood-fired sauna.

Where? Crook Road, Windermere LA23 3NE

How far? 1hr 30mins

2. Hot and wet

Cranleigh Boutique has the most astonishing array of features, but this Ben de Lisi glass bathtub might be the top luxury on offer in The Sanctuary.

The detached bungalow also has a private outdoor hot tub and a stunning bathroom with huge glass bath, super kingsize bed and 46 inch TV. But you won’t be watching that.

Where? Lake District National Park, Kendal Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere LA23 3EW

How far? 1hr 40mins

3. Sexy safari

Who knew you could unleash the beast in North Wales?

The African Safari Lodge at Pentre Mawr Country House has a terrace with a private hot tub and king size beds. Channel the animal featured in that faux print decor.

Where? Llandyrnog, Denbigh LL16 4LA

How far? 1hr 25mins

4. Cosy and cuddly

Tudor fireplaces and traditional decor makes Faenol Fawr Country House Hotel the ideal spot for some romancin’. It’s comfortable and welcoming, and there’s something extra enticing in getting it on in the Downton-style manor house.

Where? Bodelwyddan, St. Asaph, Denbighshire, North Wales LL18 5UN

How far? 1hr 20mins

5. Getting steamy

Prestbury is definitely on the ‘des-res’ list of Cheshire’s golden triangle, and The White House Manor‘s got plenty to reward its visitors. We love the Minerva room – with a queen size bed and sumptuous bathrooms with a Turkish steam room. Let this be your luxurious private sanctuary for a long weekend.

Where? The Whitehouse Manor, New Rd, Prestbury, Macclesfield SK10 4HP

How far? 30mins

6. Making music

Getting jiggy on a grand piano may have been made famous by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, but you can re-enact it in The Hyatt Regency in Birmingham. The Presidential Suite has a room with a view and is the perfect spot for you to relax in harmony.

Where? 2 Bridge St, Birmingham B1 2JZ

How far? 1hr 40mins.

7. Bare bathing

There’s nothing quite like sharing a bath – but in the Hotel Du Vin in Birmingham, you can share some champers while you both have a soak and then do what comes naturally when you’re hot and steamy. Yes, even in Birmingham.

Where? Church Street, Birmingham, B3 2NR

How far? 1hr 35mins.

8. Sultry by the seaside

Panoramic sunsets, slick decor and the knowledge that there’s nothing to distract you in the town itself, The Midland Hotel in Morecambe is pure class. It’s elegant with classic Art Deco design and a nice line in sizeable rooms with sea views. The bathrooms are something special too.

Where? Marine Rd W, Morecambe LA4 4BU

How far? 1hr 20mins

9. Sporty and sensual

Ok, chances are you’re not thinking about ball games like golf. But The Old Golf House Hotel in Huddersfield –  elegantly designed in ageless Yorkshire stone – was originally part of a prestigious golf club, and there’s still a five-hole pitch and putt green. Which you are welcome to ignore while you enjoy the lush interiors.

Where? Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD3 3YP

How far? 30 mins

10. Naturally naked

It’s like this – these stunning hotels, like The Gibbon Bridge Hotel may be set in the country’s finest areas. This one is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. But you’re not here for that. Instead, enjoy the luxe living, fine dining and chance to be alone together which the lights down low.

Where? Green Lane, Chipping nr Preston, Forest of Bowland, Lancashire, PR3 2TQ

How far? 1 hr 7mins
