Massive waves reaching 33ft are being reported off the Scottish coast as Caroline strengthens in the Atlantic.

The astonishing height of the swell was forecast yesterday with 159 staff on a North Sea oil platform being removed for safety yesterday as a precaution on Ninian Southern, 75 miles east of Shetland, according to the BBC.

The Sun is reporting that the sea has whipped up as the forecast 90mph winds sweep towards the UK, and Northern Ireland has also ben hit.

People in Scotland have been sharing their stories online.

There have also been images shared online of the sea swell in Northern Ireland, like this video.

Schools have also been forced to close as Storm Caroline moves closer.
