Study Suggests Mancs Should Be Drinking A Maximum Of Five Pints Per Week
Real bad news
We're being misled, guys.
In the UK, we're generally told to limit our alcohol consumption to 17 standard drinks (170g of pure alcohol) a week for men and 11 standard drinks (110g) for women. A standard drink is the equivalent of around a half pint of lager, a small glass of wine or a pub measure of spirits and let's face it, a lot have been guilty of going over that limit at one point or another during a seven-day period.
Now, a new study has been carried out by the University of Cambridge and published in the Lancet Journal and has found that we should actually be drinking even less than that.
The researchers studied date from 599,912 drinkers worldwide and addressed information such as gender, age and whether or not they were smokers in order to gauge their risk of heart disease.
Basically, after a lot of maths conducted by various boffins, the chief implication from the results was that we should be limiting our drinking to around 100g a week, or 5-6 pints or glasses of wine. So there ya are now.
