Manchester born-and-bred, artist Phillip Ashley now lives in Tameside and is passionate about painting water. Lovin Manchester got hold of a few of his epic paintings and well, we couldn’t resist sharing this artist’s poignant representations of some of the most beloved spots this city has to offer.
His work (featured) boasts a photographic quality – seeming to capture a true likeness of his subjects. Manchester Canal, Audenshaw Reservoir and the L. S. Lowry Barge are just some of those city locations captured by Phillip, fuelled by a lifelong love of all things water-related.
Phillip says that even in the centre of built up cities like Manchester, “an oasis of tranquillity can be found amongst the waterways where wildlife can live in harmony with people. I love the reflections created in canals, ponds, puddles etc. of man-made structures and buildings.”
“I try to capture the amazing psychedelic, almost hypnotic patterns, created on a sunny day”.
