The biggest (and we think best) Christmas Party in the UK is back and the headliners for Manchester Christmas Lights Switch-on can now be announced!

The huge show in Albert Square attracts thousands of people every year and has welcomed some of the hottest names in show biz to help push the button to officially begin the city’s festive season – now well known as the UK’s Capital of Christmas.

And now the sniffles, death-bed style coughing and heavy head have set in, we can be sure the festive season has arrived...

Without further ado, this year's event will take place on Friday 4th November from 7.30pm.

The line-up

The winner of last year’s X-Factor competition and national sweetheart Louisa Johnson will perform live at Albert Square Light Switch-On this year. She won the nation’s hearts and was named by infamous music dragon Simon Cowell as the best singer he’d ever seen on the show - quite a statement considering he's witnessed the likes of Queen belter Leona Lewis.

Appearing on Clean Bandit’s hit single, Tears, Louisa is also working on her debut album, due for release in December (soon after her performance in Manchester.)

JP Cooper (pictured below) will also be performing - the local musician has grown a huge fan base through touring over the past few years and his relatively recent stardom doesn't look set to slow down either. JP's debut EP, out on Island Records, showcases his characteristic blend of soulful tunes and stunning vocals.

And the MOBO nominated trio Modus Operandi will complete the night’s musical performances, bringing their R&B garage attitude to the heart of Manchester city - Albert Square.

Mancunian comic John Thomson will be a crowd favourite when he arrives on stage following the reprise of his role in iconic 90s comedy drama, Cold Feet. John is appearing on stage ahead of his role as the evil Abanazar in the Opera House’s Christmas panto, Aladdin.

And the cast of hit musical production Billy Elliot (playing at the Palace Theatre from 29 November) will help the crowds to get their toes tip-tapping and bodies jumping as the cast from the show perform live on stage too!

This Christmas Switch-On will be hosted by Key 103’s Mike Toolan and Corrie’s Brooke Vincent, along with the marmite character Paddy McGuinness (no likey no lighty!)

As per (aren't we spoled) the whole show will be topped off by a spectacular fireworks display!

As ever the event is completely free, just get the family together and be sure to wrap up warm.

And the Christmas cheer continues just a week later, on Friday 11 November.
