Cathedral Gardens gets set to welcome a magical ice rink

For the first time ever, the site will see families, friends and lovers getting into the Christmas spirit whilst skating against the stunning historic backdrop of the Gardens- which themselves will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland.

The location is family-friendly and popular with couples seeking a romantic gallivant away from the hubbub of the main market sites.

The rink opens at 3pm on Friday 4 November 2016 and will remain in Manchester until 8 January 2017. Normal opening hours will be 11am until 9pm (the same day at the Christmas Lights Switch-on in Albert Square.)

Alongside the ice rink families and fun-seekers will be able to enjoy a traditional fairground complete with Ferris wheel, traditional carousel, a Helter Skelter, and a tea cup ride. The fairground will open alongside the award-winning Manchester Christmas Markets on Thursday, 10 November and we cannot wait.

And Manchester’s Christmas spokesman, Cllr Pat Karney is almost as excited as us!

“These Christmas markets are up there with the best in the world, and this year they're getting even better. The ice rink is a Manchester first – and it's in the iconic shadows of the Cathedral and National Football Museum."

They're expecting thousands of people to get their skates on and dive (hopefully not head first) into the festive season.
