Stargazers could be in for a huge treat in Greater Manchester this evening, as forecasters say the Northern Lights will be viewable in our fair city following the biggest solar flare in a decade.

The flare which results from a sudden flash of brightness near the sun’s surface can lead to one of the greatest natural phenomenons we can ever witness as human beings.

The Aurora Borealis has been seen in the past in Oldham and Rochdale but tonight is set to be particularly spectacular.

According to the Met Office it’s likely to be overcast with heavy rain in the area which could skew views but we'll remain optimistic!
