PICS: Manchester's Newest Resident Is Here

We can bearly contain ourselves....

Good news, Manchester, we're getting a polar bear for Christmas.

No, not a real one of course. It might be cold here but not that cold.

A 3 metre long bear, designed by local artist Liam Hopkins will be launched to the public on Thursday November 24th with carol singing, some of the Northwest’s best street food and a fantastic Sky Ride which will give thrill-seekers a stunning view of the entire city.

To get an idea of the size of Manchester's new resident check out the pic of his head below:

Liam is in the red hat, Ben Jones is from New Bailey, where the bear will be situated and Beatriz Pardo is from the sponsor Bathroom Takeaway.

The head took Liam three  days to make and he’s planning to have all the legs made by mid next week and it will then be lit up in time for the big launch.

The bear will be inwardly lit – and will glow white throughout the dark Winter nights – a festive beacon for the thousands of commuters who walk through The Track at New Bailey every week.

Along with all the fun and games, there will be plenty of opportunity to help out worthy causes. Bathroom Takeaway will be driving their bus on to New Bailey throughout the season and using it as a hub for Key103’s Mission Christmas Toy appeal, and whilst you hop aboard to donate your gift you can also pick up a hot mulled wine and maybe even a mince pie. Yum!

We think we're most excited about the sky ride which you can see below.

Not for the weak of stomach we would imagine. Speaking about the event, managing director for Bathroom Takeaway, Julian Smith said:

“We are delighted to be a part of such a fantastic Christmas project and plan to not only support with sponsorship but also to bring our entire team down to enjoy the festivities. We will be bringing our double decker bus which will help us to raise awareness about our two chosen charities, Brainwave and Key 103’s Mission Christmas Toy Appeal.”

New Bailey will also be launching a social media competition to name the bear (please... not Beary McBearface). The details of the comp as well as the prizes for the winners can be found below:

For more information on the festive season at New Bailey, be sure to check out their website and get down there to check out the as yet unnamed bear on November 24th.
