Is it just us, or when you pop to your local for some milk, does it seem like once-niche baking goods like buckwheat flour, chia seeds and coconut cream have booted the likes of Betty Crocker to the subs bench?
It’s official. Freegan-veganism and hipster pop-up trucks are taking over the world – and Manchester is no exception.
Now, the likes of Black Milk Cereal Dive in Affleck’s and the Northern Quarter’s cherished Home Sweet Home might be seeing some tough competition for their famous sweetie-pie shakes in the form of Raw Blueberry Cake, Peanut Butter Brownies and other refined sugar-free bakes, sarnies and smoothies!
Not convinced? Sweet lovers can rejoice – this new venture by Viet Shack pioneer Nelson Lam and his wife Simone is set to be a truly ‘naughty but nice’ experience, everything’s home-made and free of gluten and dairy but looks sinful as anything so you can still satisfy those sugar junkie cravings. Healthy baker Simone is a self-professed sugar lover who simply wants to find and share healthy alternatives with the people of the city!
Simone’s big opening is tomorrow and the goods are already expected to sell like, well…hot cakes. Opening hours are 11.30am-6pm 7 days a week – you can check them out and keep updated @SimonesMCR
We’ll be letting the good folk at Simone’s settle in and fire up thier ovens in preparation, then we’ll be most definitely hopping over to have our cake (and eat it). Watch this space…
