Liam Gallagher Leads Tributes To Inspiral Carpets Drummer

Craig Gill has passed away aged 44

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has led triubtes to Craig Gill, former drummer of Manchester band the Inspiral Carpets, who has tragically passed away aged 44.

The news was announced through the band's Facebook page on Monday:

Liam, whose brother Noel once supported the Carpets as a roadie, expressed his shock on Monday afternoon:

14-year-old Gill joined the Inspiral Carpets in 1986 and the band went onto play with legends of the Madchester music scene of the late 80s.

They were discovered by the Happy Mondays and went on to support the Stone Roses.

In 1989 their debut album was only kept off the top of the album charts by a Carpenters compilation. It was also the year that they headlined the Reading festival to much acclaim.

No details of Gill's death have been released.
