Greater Manchester is bidding to host the World’s Fair (also known as Expo) in nine years time.
Ashton Moss in Tameside has been identified as a suitable site to host the event which is described as a ‘six-month showcase of technology, manufacturing, and culture from across the world’.
The last such event took place in Milan in 2015 and attracted over 20 million visitors.
It is hoped that a successful bid would see tens of thousands of new jobs for the city, permanently improved transport links and billions of pounds added to the local economy.
Both Crystal Palace in London and the Eifell Tower in Paris were built especially for previous incarnations of the event.
Don’t get too excited though as Manchester is competing against the Canadian city of Toronto for the right to host.
The government has until October 31st to finalise its bid.
