It is unclear what caused the death of Lagerfeld, however, there had been reports of the designer being unwell for a while.
Lagerfeld also missed the Chanel haute couture show in Paris last month on the 22nd of January which added to speculation over his failing health.
As well as being at the helm of one of the most influential fashion houses, Lagerfeld himself was a fashion icon. His signature white ponytail, black sunglasses, gloves and high collars are instantly recognisable.
Fans and friends from the fashion world are now sharing tributes to the renowned designer on social media.
