Highways England have warned motorists travelling northbound on M6 to expect 3 hour delays.

Delays come after an incident in Orrell- which resulted in the closure of the link road from A577 Orrell Road to Orrell Interchange – following a HGV collision with a footbridge.

All lanes have reopened on the southbound between J20 and J19. Lane closures are still in place on the northbound carriageway, with just the hard shoulder in use to allow traffic through.

The footbridge took a real hit and has completely collapsed – those travelling and commuting this evening are advised to find alternative routes if possible.

No injuries have been reported.
