You may feel like you’re not making the most of your precious weekend time if you pop off for a nap mid-morning or afternoon on a Saturday, but as it turns out, they’re actually great for your health. For real!
Not only that, new research claims that having a midday nap for as little as one hour is supposedly as effective as some drugs (and cutting out salt from our diets) in lowering blood pressure – and if doc says it’s good for us…
The effects of a midday snooze could even lessen our chances of coronary problems and heart attacks by lowering blood pressure and lowering the risk, ultimately, of hypertension (high blood pressure.)
Sounds like as good an excuse as any to us!
New research was conducted by doctors at the Asklepieion General Hospital in Greece, and focused on participants with high blood pressure.
Each participant wore a blood pressure monitor and those that napped for just one hour a day saw a drop of 3mm Hg in blood pressure when compared to the non-nappers.
