United Star Becomes Latest Player To Receive Shock International Call-Up
The midfielder is currently uncapped...
United midfielder Ander Herrera has earned a call-up to the Spanish senior squad for the first time.
The 27-year-old midfielder won the European Under-21 Championship in 2011 alongside current clubmates David De Gea and Juan Mata but unlike the aforementioned duo he has yet to represent his nation at senior level.
The shock inclusion comes after a string of impressive performances from Herrera since joining United from Athletic Bilbao in 2014.
It's fair to say his United pals are happy for him judging by their social media posts:
Congrats Ander. Well deserved my friend 👍🏼 Good luck. https://t.co/5efcUcJRfd— Michael Carrick (@carras16) October 4, 2016
Grande @AnderHerrera!— Juan Mata García (@juanmata8) October 3, 2016
Herrera isn't the only United player receiving the call from international managers this week. Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay are joining up with Italy and the Netherlands respectively despite neither figuring much at Old Trafford so far this campaign.
FA Cup final hero Jesse Lingard could earn his first senior England cap after being called up by interim manager Gareth Southgate.
In total, 17 members of José Mourinho squad are departing Manchester in search of crucial World Cup Qualifying success.
