United Release Statement Clearing Things Up About Busby And His Old Trafford Plaque
Blown out of proportion...
Manchester United fans woke up this morning to the shocking reports that a plaque with the name of legendary manager Sir Matt Busby had been removed from Old Trafford.
Not only that but Busby's family had been told that they were no longer welcome to sit in the directors' box.
Of course, with the internet being the internet, people were duly outraged:
Shame on @ManUtd people who made the decision to remove the plaque from Sir Matt Busby's seat at Old Trafford. Disgraceful.— Mohsin Tanveer (@MohsinTanveer10) September 5, 2016
It's disgraceful that Sir Matt Busby's plaque and families seats have been removed. He epitomises the heart and soul of our football club.— Bewsh (@Bewsh88) September 5, 2016
@WayneRooney Re-Sir Matt Busby plaque, if you can do something can you rally your team and refuse to play until it is reinstated. Thank you— ethel openshaw (@nellieopenshaw) September 5, 2016
The name that brought this club back from the dead. Sir Matt Busby. Incredibly disrespectful move by the club to take down his plaque😡 #MUFC— Fayez (@fayez7009) September 5, 2016
There was even a petition set up ordering the club to reinstate the Great Man's family as confusion raged as to what actually went down.
This afternoon, a poster on popular United forum RedCafe.net moved to clear matters up:

It appears to be a perfectly reasonable explanation.
This afternoon, United appeared to back up this theory by releasing a statement which said:
“The club continues to provide tickets and hospitality for the descendants of Sir Matt but with the passing of his children that hospitality will continue in the Warwick Suite.”
So that's that cleared up. Phew.
