It’s no secret that veganism, or plant based diets, has become increasingly popular over the past few years. For either health or ethical reasons, people are trying to cut out or cut down on their meat intake.
I for one, as a fully fledged meat eater, am trying to cut down on my meat consumption in an effort to eat healthier and also reduce my carbon footprint. Usually, I don’t find this too difficult. However, a lot of the time, I find it hard to find quick on-the-go lunch options that are both healthy, meat free….and not just a garden salad.
This is why I was so excited to find out that there is a brand new plant based eatery that is opening up in the Royal Exchange building, near the Arndale Centre.
They serve up fresh stews and curries, as well as artisan sandwiches and hearty soups, all priced very reasonably between £5 and £10.
I tried the Three Bean Chilli and when I say the bowl was empty in minutes, I am not lying. It’s everything you want in a quick meal – hearty, flavourful and it doesn’t make you feel like you’ve over indulged.
Another popular item on the menu is the Persian-style aubergine stew with kale crisps, brown rice and a shiraz salad. Again, it was jam packed full of flavour – you won’t even miss meat when you come here.
The 25-cover restaurant will be hoping to do most of its trade on take away meals, however, they do cater to those who would like to eat in. The simple yet stylish design of the cafe makes it perfect for those looking to catch-up over a coffee and a healthy meal.
Vertigo is not only open for lunch, but dinner too! Making it the perfect spot for a quick meal and a drink for those heading to the theatre or out on the town.
Vertigo opens 7am-9pm on weekdays and 9am-9pm on weekends.
I know where my new favourite lunch spot will be!
