The UK’s top late night takeaway hotspots have just been revealed - as one Greater Manchester takeaway makes the top 20 'Drunk Food Index.'

Liverpool has bagged the official UK top spot for ‘drunk food’, with chicken shop staple, Nabzy’s, bagging the gold medal in an index of the nation’s favourite late-night foodie stops for students. Beating popular university city takeaways in London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Cambridge, Nabzy’s has topped the Drunk Food Index, compiled by student accommodation search engine Mystudenthalls.com.

Manchester's own Abduls ranked 11th in the UK, and other notable entries in the ranking include 24-hour bakery Clark’s in Dundee (5th), a favourite of comedian Kevin Bridges, and Cardiff’s Dorothy’s (6th), which serves students its legendary curry and chips in the city’s ‘Chippy Alley’.

Abdul's covers Manchester city centre, Rusholme, Old Trafford and Hulme and serves pizza, kebab sandwiches, rice, naan and a variety of curries.

The Drunk Food Index shares insights on each food establishment, and includes recommendations for dishes, such as suggesting “The cheesy chips everytime (with or without gravy) and try make sure you try their famous red salt.” at Nabzy’s, or if you’re looking for something more traditional, it’s advised to ”Keep it classic with an AJ’s kebab” when ordering from, AJ’s Kebab’s.

Mystudenthalls.com MD and founder, Dan Roberts, commented:

“There’s certainly no denying that a good local takeaway is a large part of any experience, student or otherwise, and our new index celebrates the very best of these great local businesses that often become iconic with students old and new.”

On topping the index, Mr Tabarik, Owner of Nabzy’s commented:

“Hundreds of students eat in our stores every day, and our reputation lives on thanks to them. Over the years, we’ve fed chicken and chips to the same students, from Freshers Week, until they leave the city – and really feel part of the local community. It’s an honour to feature at the top of the index, represent Liverpool, and be the go-to takeaway for students in the area – even when we have to have drunken heart-to-hearts with them!”
