Steak is a very personal thing.

We like it cooked the way we like it - blue, rare, medium, well-done - but it's got to be quality to come out good on the other side.

Luckily, Manchester has some bloody brilliant spots for a nice steak and chips.

Here's our pick of the top 10.

10. Blackhouse Grill On New York Street

Blackhouse

Premium quality steak that's aged for 28 days in this venue whose name, space and menu that makes you think of large New York-style steak houses. Some great steaks on the menu (including some serious value) and they do what they set out to do with perfection.

9. Fazenda

An amazing restaurant with a Brazilian theme and a huge focus on cooking great meat. Their steaks are melt-in-the-mouth good and they all come flame-grilled or skewered for that extra taste.

A wonderfully French restaurant in every sense of the word. Their steaks vary and they often have some great specials but the classic with either peppercorn or bearnaise sauce is everything that is good about French cooking. Perfection.

7. Featherblade

Got a lot of negative press about copying a restaurant in London on opening but the reality is they do an awesome steak. We absolutely loved it when we visited and the prices are seriously competitive as well.

6. Brasserie Abode

How do you like your steak? With a side of fries? For £12? Yeah, us too 👌🏻

The restaurant at Abode Hotel, this place was given a new look earlier this year. But the classically-inspire menu is just as delicious as ever.

107 Piccadilly, Manchester M1 2DB

5. Cau

Locations in both Didsbury and Media City which are super-relaxed and informal places to eat great steak. A perfect place to come with a few friends, eat great steak and linger over a bottle of red.

700 Wilmslow Road/Orange Building, Media City

4. San Carlo

One of the most famous restaurants in the city and although you'd probably think of seafood and pasta when going to eat here. But that would be a mistake, because to ignore the steak would be a travesty. Absolutely melt in the mouth.

3. Gaucho

Chorizo Sirloin, tender yet succulent with its strip of juicy crackling...

Any restaurant that is dedicated to steak and especially the Argentinian variety deserves to be on the list. The fact that they do it so well and so consistently makes this a must visit. Sipping a good glass of red and tucking into a steak with all the trimmings here is the absolute dream.

 2A St Mary's St, Manchester M3 2LB

2. Solita

This week sees big changes happening on our menu, lots of new dishes and quite a few old favourites gone. Watch this space.

Not the first thing you'd think of ordering when you come to this Northern Quarter joint given their focus on burgers and the likes, but their steak is as good as it gets. Amazing thick steaks, great chips and all served in a super relaxed style.

School Ln, Didsbury M20 6RD/Turner St,  Northern Quarter, M4 1DW/401 Bury New Rd, Prestwich, M25 1AA

1. Hawksmoor

This restaurant has been an absolute revelation since they came to Manchester - and given that they are all about the steaks, it is no surprise to see them so high on the list. Eating steak here and drinking cocktails is like dying and going to heaven.
