Deansgate has officially upped it's game as new Turkish Concept, Kai comes to town.
With so many sites closing and even more high end places opening, we went along to see how it could compete.
With a grass wall, flowered ceiling and beautiful booths it certainly had the wow factor on arrival. But was it to be all style and no substance?
Greeted by friendly staff we were given a table with a great view of the flowered ceiling and the kitchen so we could see the flames rising up from their proper coal fire.
Described as Mezze Bar and Grill - I had high hopes for the offering, especially as a big meat eater.
Although the atmosphere screamed luxury, the menu was very simply laid out (just as I like it!).
Cold mezzes, hot mezzes, grills and much more were on offer. It was only right we gave them all a go...
First up was the cold mezze. Think olives, hummus, esze salad and wood-fired bread to scoop it all up with. My favourite dipping element was the babaganush. Not one I had come across before, aubergine based and it was diced not blended. It was packing some serious flavour!
The colours and presentation was on point. too.
Next up was the hot mezze which was a personal fave. Allowing you to try everything it combined: Spinach and Feta Borek, Halloumi, Calamari, falafel, kofte and Creamy Garlic Mushrooms. I have never been one for sharing food, and considering how high quality it all was this seriously tested me.
The Spinach and Feta Borek was the perfect combination of crispy pastry, healthy spinach and delicious cheese and was so moreish I had them both.
The Creamy Garlic Mushrooms were another stand out option, as long as your company can cope with your breath it is well worth ordering.
As there were only two of us, I can honestly say that this was ultimately enough food.
But you cannot come to a place like this and not try the mixed grill can you...
So we did.
And my god am I glad we did.
The lamb chops have to be up there with the best meat I have ever had, certainly the best chops. They were tender, well seasoned and simply delightful - I wish I had room to order a plate of just these.
Add into the mix some lamb shish, chicken shish and adana kebab and you have yourself one meat feast.
The whole experience was amazing. From the service to the decor and most importantly, the food.
With epic portions and delightful flavours I will definitely be back to check out the rest of the menu.
Well done Kai. Raising the bar for dining experiences in Manchester.
Keep it up (Y).
