REVIEW: The Undiscovered Restaurant Underneath Canal Street That You Have To Try
Amazing food and stunning interior
We wrote about Marco Pierre White's new venture here in Manchester before it opened at the start of the year and I popped in to check it out following their eagerly anticipated launch - and it is all of the divine you'd expect.
Similar to the Chester branch, the inside is a millennial's dream...
New year (well, nearly!), and a new look for Marco Pierre White Chester! Doesn't it look fantastic?!🍾 For more info, check out their Page, and if you'd like to book in, give them a call on 01244 408 830 😀 #new #design #interior #interiordesign #happy #love #wow #winter #festive #christmas #food #foodie #foodgram #instagood #mood #vibe #dine #dinner #lunch #celeb #chef
Situated below the Velvet Hotel on the city’s lively Canal Street, Mr White’s English Chophouse focuses on a menu of quality steaks, chops and grills, and pies, all created by the rock star chef himself.
It's open seven days a week and while there, you're invited to take a trip upstairs to the lively Velvet bar, which has recently undergone major renovations - and trust me, it is the place to go if you're after a sumptuous cocktail in decadent surroundings - one for a special occasion or a chilled pre or post-meal bevvie.
While the menu at Mr. White's will change frequently in accordance with what choice ingredients are available, the type of dishes that diners can expect include baked camembert, seared sea scallops with black pudding, duck rillettes, and puddings include homemade drunken fruitcake, and espresso affogato.
The night I was in I had the seared scallops with black pudding, pancetta and cauliflower puree to start. Sumptuous, full of flavour and despite the addition of the black pudding, not too heavy before the main course.
For my main I went for the dish heartily recommended by our lovely waitress - the confit duck leg a la parisian with different textures of french fries, salade verte and bearnaise sauce. The crispy skin on the duck was a heaven of deep brown deliciousness in your mouth and the kind of thing you'd eat every night of the week.
Among the desserts you can expect are baked vanilla cheesecake with fresh blueberry compote, the 'box tree mess' and the espresso affogato with vanilla ice cream and a shot of espresso. I was pretty stuffed after two courses but the warm chocolate brownie with milk ice cream was crying out to me and it was an absolute work of art in terms of style, presentation, taste and flair.
Put this on your summer to-do list. It's an absolute beaut of a restaurant that should be top pick for your next date night.
