Annoying Name, Great Grub – Killer Mexican Street Food And Cocktails In The Northern Quarter

The portions are big and the buzz is unreal

I don't think I could ever have enough Mexican food and I'm pretty sure that's a sentiment most of us have come to embrace over the last few years.

What's not to like about melted cheese, spicy stuff, slow cooked meat and usually all washed down with either cocktails or beer?

Apart from having one of the most annoying names ever, Luck Lust Liquor & Burn ticks all the boxes when it comes a good night out with friends. Ideally you'd start a night out here but ironically it also ticks all the boxes for the perfect hangover meal too... so take your pick!

The downstairs bar has just had a revamp and as packed full of good looking young people sipping their new cocktail offerings.

It was a Thursday evening when we visited and everybody had big smiles on their faces conveniently ignoring the one day's work remaining in the week.

The restaurant is up a graffiti-covered set of stairs, and the pumping music and food whizzing out of the kitchen as you wait for a table all let you know you're in for a good feed. The one issue is the popularity of the place, mind – so plan ahead or you could be in for a long wait.

The menu is big and messy; lots of choices and the design is all over the place. Not in a bad way, but in a way that makes you question your order every minute and change what you want over and over again.

You needn't worry, though, because everything tastes fucking gorgeous so you can't really go wrong.

Do come with an appetite...

Because the portions are on the seriously large size. The flavours are big and some dishes are spicy but that just gives you more of an excuse to wash them down with copious amounts of the great beers they have on offer.

If it wasn't for the effect it would have on the waistline I'd eat here every day of the week.

I don't know how you could possibly not like this type of food. Plenty of places do Mexican (or Californian depending on how you look at it) food but very few do it this well. If they could just simplify the name ('Lust', maybe?) then we'd give it top marks.

Grab some mates, work up an appetite and plan a proper night out because this place will put you right in the mood for some partying.
