A True Little Italy In The Heart Of Manchester
ALL of the class and less of the price tag
Rosso is a stylish gem fit for kings (and failing that - football legends) located on Spring Gardens in the heart of Manchester's business district. If the shrine-like photographs and football memorabilia don't already alert you to the fact, the restaurant and bar is owned by Man-U's legendary Rio Ferdinand, and with its stunning architecture and luxurious menu, it oozes Italian culture to boot.
Although they're open every lunch through to evening, it's well worth visiting for their lunch 2-course set menu priced at £16.95 a head - which lets you enjoy your first bottle of wine on the house!
Great venue for a business lunch, it's also the perfect spot for a catch-up with friends or a romantic soiree if you're feeling a bit sophisticated but don't want to bankrupt yourself to the high heavens - and it's dead central if you're planning to get the tram or train in so you're free to have a tipple or two.
You'll spend about £20 if you add on dessert (we figured in some cultures it's rude not to...) which is solid value considering that in true Italian style the portion sizes aren't too shabby. With the classic Italian Prosciutto e Melone (that's ham and melon, to me and you) there are lighter options, as well as vegetarian dishes and all the sumptuous pizza, rigatoni and cheese-laden drool-worthies you'd expect from a proper Italiano - so it's a safe option if you have a party with a few tricky mouths to feed too.
Just remember to leave your car at home and head there with an open mind, the house red is surprisingly good and the whole atmosphere gets you in the mood for a stroll down the cobbled contemporary Italian streets to a chorus of 'That's Amore' before you know it.
