I’ve always thought that perfect Thai food needs to boast the same unfussy, chilled venue/vibes as Thailand itself is famed for and one new spot in town surely beats out all competition in that regard.

Siam Smiles, a tiny eatery on the hidden gem that is Deansgate Mews, sums up Thailand in a nutshell.

Unruffled and unapologetic, Siam Smiles preps its food straight away for hungry locals and wandering office workers.

It’s only been open a few months, but already word is spreading. Love Thai? You’ll LOVE this.

Tucked away on Deansgate Mews…

Deansgate Mews is in itself one of Manchester’s hidden gems, previously home to the party/food connoisseur that was B.EAT STREET – it’s now a central hub for a growing number of restaurants, bars, and even a Virtual Reality Hideout – Siam Smiles of course, is one of the crowning jewels…

The cosy cafe offers up a range of flavoursome curries, stir fries, noodle dishes – and of course, the gaff’s famous papaya salad!

The smell is amazing, the food is succulent, and the chilled venue invites you to sit in or out as suits your preference – and take a much-needed respite from the busy city below…

Comforting favourites are on the menu which is a mosaic of curry, stir fry and udon…

Noodles or a curry for those colder days are what we’re alll about right now. But be warned if you ask for your dish hot – this place takes no prisoners and likes to pack a punch – their delicious papaya salad had my mouth on fire – beautiful as it was…

A range of curried meat is served wok or golden fried with a range of colourful vegetables and baby pak choi with noodles, tantalising sauces and then – understandably – slurped up in seconds.

Vegetarians are looked after with a range of options, and starter portions are keenly priced at round about the £4 mark or 3 for £10 with mains setting you back around £10-15 a head with a drink.

Yum.

Great value, great vibes and great surroundings – Deansgate Mews’ Platzki just next door is also one of the most romantic restaurants I have ever been in. Review here.
