Warning: A Huge Gin Shortage Is About To Hit The UK
Seeing as gin is the tipple most of us have turned to on Fridays and Saturdays (or most days) in this year so far, it's a given that it'll be a big summer hit.
HOWEVER, gin lovers had better take a long, deep breath, cause our beloved Mother's Ruin has been threatened.
The Wine and Spirits Trade Association (WSTA) has warned of a gin shortage in the UK if the government’s recently unveiled ‘no-deal’ Brexit scenario goes through.
What. The. Actual. F?
The WSTA is predicting shortages to food and drink within two weeks of us leaving the European Union, seriously affecting the UK's juniper supplies.
Gin distillers in the UK rely heavily on juniper imports from all over the world when creating their gin.
According to The Spirits Business, smaller distilleries across the country could be facing “extremely testing times” if the Brexit deal goes ahead.
Miles Beale, chief executive of the WSTA, told TSB: “The British gin industry is a great example of a booming trade that could be severely hampered if the so-called ‘Brexit Armageddon’ scenario strikes.
“The whole of the UK wine and spirit trade relies on the frictionless movement of goods in and out of the UK. We have been warning our members to prepare for the worst for the last 18 months. Government seem to have only just woken up to facing the bleakest outcome.
“The harsh reality is that Armageddon risks companies going under, jobs being lost and consumers facing price hikes.
“So, parliament needs to debate and pass the EU withdrawal bill and the government needs to get on with negotiating a successful trade deal with the EU that can be delivered in time for the end of the transition period.”
Let's hope this isn't goodbye </3
