Loosen your belts! Here are the top nine Manchester burgers, tried and tested of course.

We’ve scoured the city on a serious burger-binge to show you the best that Manchester has to offer. We have also included some veggie options, including one-award winning vegan diner!

Prepare yourself for your next cheat day, go on – you know you deserve it…

1. Flames Smokehouse

Flames Smokehouse is located in Failsworth, Manchester but is totally worth the trip with their insane burger creations, hence voting it no.1.

Designed with some of the finest meat around and topped off with the best ingredients you can get your hands on, this is not a burger to take lightly.

They even have a specialist ‘Manchester Burger’ which will have you salivating at the mouth. 4oz brisket patty, smoked pulled pork, dry cured streaky bacon and a crispy chicken fillet it is the meat lovers dream. Topped with cheese, pickled slaw and house sauce we were drooling.

Ooo er.

Flames Smokehouse is on Brierley Ave, Failsworth, Manchester M35 9HA and open 5-9pm everyday.

2. Red’s True Barbecue

The Church of true barbecue in Manchester is open to true believers. In their quest to save hungry souls, their menu (‘The Good Book’) offers a range of ‘Divine Morsels’ including crackling, crispy house-made smoked pork scratchings scattered with their own spice dust, Barbecue Trays with a variety of ribs, chicken and steaks, and of course their burgers.

A Yorkshire-sourced chuck, brisket and beef rib mix, pit-fired over charcoal. One worshipper-favourite is the Pit Burger for £16.95, two patties, Red’s pulled pork, smoked peppered bacon, Red’s Dirty sauce, tomato, onion, pickles, lettuce and an onion ring. As Reds True Barbecue said – let there be meat!

Red’s True Barbecue on Lloyd Street is open 12-11pm Monday-Thursday. Opening until 1am on Friday, 12am on Saturday and closing at 10pm on Sundays.

3. Solita’s

Solita Bar and Grill, home of the ‘Big Manc’ as pictured below, is located in the Northern Quarter, with other branches located in Didsbury, Preston and Prestwich. They offer wings, steak, burgers, grilled seafood, loaded fries, nachos and generous sides. Famous for ‘The Big Manc’ burger, which boasts 2 x 7 ounce minced chuck steak patties, iceberg lettuce, home pickles and Monterey Jack cheese for £14.50.

Not ones to leave out the veggies they have their Solita Special Bean Burger and their ‘Hallou Me?’ Burger, with charcoal grilled halloumi, portobello mushrooms, red pepper and house sauce.

Solita on Turner Street is open 12-10pm Monday-Thursday. Opening until 11pm on Fridays, 11am-11pm on Saturdays and 11am-10pm on Sundays.

4. Luck, Lust, Liquor & Burn

This North American road-trip style restaurant and bar serves “bold, exciting Californian style Mexican food” in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Here you can see the ‘Triple Threat’ named for it’s double cheeseburger, pulled BBQ pork and bacon topped with Luck, Lust Liquor & Burn’s Redneck Sauce and sundried tomato aioli. Make sure you’re hungry as you can expect generous portions here!

Many comment on the amazing atmosphere in Luck, Lust, Liquor & Burn and we couldn’t agree more…

Luck, Lust, Liquor & Burn is open 12-10pm Sunday-Thursday, 12-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

5. Almost Famous

‘Four Guys’ (a group of burger fans from Manchester) dubbed Almost Famous in the Great Northern the best place to get a cheeseburger in Manchester.

After sampling burgers from Archie’s, Burger & Lobster, Byron, Filthy Cow, Five Guys, GBK, Handmade Burger Co and Solita all in one day to find their favourite. In each restaurant the boys ordered two burgers and fries, each eating half a burger. In ten hours each had eaten four and a half burgers before making their final decision…

Chris Brown-Colbert, Martin Dourish, Alastair Wallace and Alex Melhuish wanted to find the best “Humble, unmessed-with classic cheese burger.”

Almost Famous in the Northern Quarter and Great Northern are known for their kicked-back approach and ‘dirty food.’ Their menu consists of burgers made from 100% freshly-ground beef and jam-packed with accompaniments including their “crack wings” and “dirty fries.” Their “Love Hate” fries are a current favourite of ours – a winning mix of skin-on and sweet potato fries with lashings of marmite butter for £3. Their “Famous Burger” for £8 is a simple cheeseburger with a salad stack, “famous sauce” and “winning ketchup.”

Almost Famous in the Great Northern is open from 12-10pm Sunday-Thursday, and 12-11pm on Friday and Saturday.

Their High Street restaurant is open 5–10pm Monday – Thursday, and 12-11pm On Friday and Saturday, opening 12-10pm on Sundays.

6. V Revolution

With the trend of veganism fast-rising, we’re almost programmed to think of vegan food as superfoods, quinoa and salad – but V Revolution on Oldham Street has other ideas!

This Vegan diner serves Vegan junk food, including nachos, hotdogs, shakes and cakes and of course their burgers. Pictured is the “Barbecuban Missile Crisis” a ‘beef’ burger with vegan ‘cheese’, ‘bacon’, BBQ sauce, crispy onions and coleslaw for only £5! Served with tortilla chips (on the off-chance you’re still hungry!)

A small, retro dig with checkered floors on Oldham Street is where they call home, but V Revolution are set to move to new premises on Edge Street with three times more seating, a bigger menu with more gluten-free options, fresh cakes, pies and donuts – plus a new bar and cocktail menu.

V Revolution were recently named ‘Best Vegan Restaurant’ in the UK at the annual VegFest in London, triumphing over nine other nominees from across the UK.

V Revolution currently open 12-6pm every day excluding Tuesdays (closed.)

7. Dog Bowl

Dog Bowl, located on Whitworth Street West, is a modern bowling venue with five full length ten pin bowling lanes. They have a cocktail bar and a late-night menu with Tex-Mex dishes, grills, plenty of side dishes and of course – burgers.

Pictured is the ‘Steak & Bacon’ a minced steak burger wrapped in bacon, stacked with pit beans, jack cheese, burger sauce and salad on a sesame seed bun. Their menu also includes a Fried Chicken Burger, A Pulled Pork or Brisket Burger, the Dog Bowl Bad Boy and a Veggie Burger with roasted field mushrooms, blue and goats cheese.

Dog Bowl’s open from 12pm-2am Sunday-Friday, and open until 3am on Saturday.

8. Five Guys

Five Guys in the Trafford Centre offer 120-day grain finished, 100% beef burgers from family owned farms in Ireland. Less than 1% of all UK beef qualifies. They serve their burgers ‘juicy, glistening and well done.’ The restaurant chain was founded in Arlington, Virginia in 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell offered sage advice to their young sons: “Start a business or go to college”.

They opened their first burger joint, simply named ‘Five Guys’ after the five brothers. With an uncomplicated menu of burgers and fries, Jerry’s philiosophy was simple “to perfect and serve” which is exactly what he did!

Five Guys in the intu Trafford Centre open 10am-10pm Monday-Friday, 10am-9pm on Saturday and 12-6pm on Sunday.

9. Handmade Burger Co

Handmade Burger Co on Deansgate have over 40 different handmade burgers for you to choose from, all handmade from scratch in their restaurants each day using traditionally reared 100% prime Scottish beef.

They use fresh ingredients and seasoning before flame-grilling to order to create the best tasting burger possible. They have veggie, vegan and gluten free options.

The Handmade Burger Co recently introduced Herd Rewards, every time you enjoy one of their burgers you will earn a stamp on your loyalty card, when you have collected ten you will enjoy parts of your next meal for free. Their Cheese Classic is one of their Scottish beef burgers with mature cheddar, American cheese, Red Leicester or Applewood smoked cheddar served with their original HBC burger relish, mayo and salad.

Handmade Burger Co Deansgate open 11:30am-11pm Monday-Saturday and 12-10:30pm on Sundays.
