The Manchester Weekend Bucket List - 20 Things Everybody Living Here Should Do Once
Start working your way through that list
A city of discoveries, Manchester - it's so sensationally well stocked with experiences, food and drinks that you will lose yourself in.
But what to try first?
"It's okay to look back at the past, just don't stare." . . . . . #beethamtower #manchester #england #uk #mcr #igersuk #igersmanchester #igersmcr #thisismcr #bestofmcr #ilovemcr #exploremcr #welovemcr #mcrfinest #wonderlustmanchester #manchestereveningnews #iheartmanchester #lovinmanchester #visitmanchester #wearemcr #wanderlust #summer #photography #amateurphotography #canon #photo #photooftheday
Well, lucky for you we've put together a fabuloso guide to the greatest hits from our surroundings.
Don't thank us.
1. Eat a cronut at Albert's Schloss
The city's favourite beer haus have only recently introduced their fabulous breakfast menu served from 8am.
It features the cronut (son of the croissant and donut) and the cruffin (daughter or croissant and muffin.)
We think breads should interbreed more often.
2. See Manchester’s kick-ass street art
Found this on the side of a house near Trafford (ish).. isn't it just beautiful.. surely a bare wall is a bit boring... @adventuresofstevieb 😉😉😉. Is this yours? @qubekmanchester . #mcrstreetart #mcr #streetart #art #urbanart #urbanwalls #graff #grafitt #northernquartermanchester #nq #streetartuk #arturban #artsnapper #graffitiart #instaart #instagraff #instagraffitiart #streetartlovers #streetartistry
Skyliner blogger Hayley Flynn holds various tours around the city, including Art in Architecture and Pomona Island: An Industrial Wasteland. But because we reckon Manchester’s street art could be good enough to rival Berlin’s (we’ll let you decide though) we would recommend the Street Art of the Northern Quarter tour.
3. Have a wander around Afflecks Palace
For all things quirky.
Describing itself as ‘an emporium of eclecticism, a totem of indie commerce’, Afflecks is definitely on the Manchester bucket list.
This alternative department store has something for everyone – from fudge to ska vinyl, from Norse jewellery to Star Wars memorabilia, from the ‘Freak Boutique’ to an anime shop.
What more could you want?
4. Snuggle up for a lazy brunch in the picturesque Heatons

We love the handsome - and comfy - window seats and their cosy cushions at The Boundary in Heaton Mersey. Grab a full English and peruse the papers between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays. Perfection.
5. Drink a honey cocktail that celebrates the city
The 'Bee-Have' has been unleashed by Malmaison’s cocktail team - it's so delicious, and honours Manchester's worker bee. It's got Hendrick’s Gin, honey, ginger ale and lemon with egg white.
6. Loser buys the drinks at Junkyard Golf
CRAZY GOLF JUST GOT EPIC! Find us in MCR, LDN & COMING SOON OXFORD 🏌🍹🙌 pic.twitter.com/ccFv6foGDR— JUNKYARD GOLF CLUB (@junkyardgolf) September 27, 2017
Different zones, crazy contraptions and the possibility of swinging a golf club while off your face on delicious cocktails. This is a total must.
7. Pay a visit to England's home of football
Whether you're a dyed-in-the-wool Red or a proud-to-be-Blue, this is the beginning and end for the football fan and their mates. The new Crest index exhibition's got 310 crests and the story of their clubs.
8. Take a trip to Europe’s third largest Chinatown
It’s also the UK’s second biggest, coming just behind Liverpool (boo!)
The restaurants are incredible and the Chinese New Year celebrations are unbeatable!
9. Hog roast pulled to perfection in Spinningfields
'Pull' into Beastro for lunch from 12 for the most delicious of hog roast sandwiches with apple sauce and stuffing for a fiver.
10. Bag a better-than-Maccie D's burger
During the whole of October, Solita NQ is offering 25% off food from Monday to Friday between 3pm-6pm for an early bird deal.
11. Drink Champers at Cloud 23
Well, it's less the drink - effervescent nectar as it is - and more the location: Cloud 23.
More than just a bar, the floating paradise located at the highest point in Manchester is ideal of fans of cocktails, or even just afternoon tea.
But we think these panoramic city views just demand fizz.
12. Watch the footy
Another tourist favourite but something that no one can miss out on.
Just be careful who you support – as we all know, the rivalry between United and City is pretty unforgiving.
13. Dine at the Street Food Trader of the Year
The perfection of Hip Hop Chip Shop's amazing fried offering is the most incredible taste you can bless your tastebuds with. Go forth...
14. Tuck into a Sausagefest at this party spot
Move over Oktoberfest this is THE SAUSAGEFEST!— Crazy Pedro (@CrazyPedros) October 1, 2017
They are always happy to help if what you want is boozy cocktails, a good feed and a late-night partay. We love.
15. Go late-night bowling
How does bowling with pre-drinks sound? You can’t go to Manchester without rolling a strike at Dog Bowl.
The bar and restaurant has five full length bowling lanes and the chance to win the pot in their Wall of Fame Competition.
16. Pop into the oldest library in the English-speaking world
Perfect for book-lovers, Chetham’s Library was founded in 1653 and has connections to Marx and Engels. It's stunning, too.
17. See Manchester from the water
Take a canal cruise on the Bridgewater Canal and get the best views of Manchester, Trafford, Salford Quays and Media City UK from the water.
Starting at Castlefield, the cruise is a great way to meet new people while seeing the city from a different perspective.
18. Head to the UK’s best pub for a Sunday Roast
An absolute classic that's still up there with the best, The Eagle and Child Roast is a thing of beauty. This Greater Manchester venue's been voted one of the top 50 Sunday lunches in the UK, so tuck in.
19. Embrace your inner freak (shake)
The cereal cafe's insanely overstacked treats are something to behold, but Black Milk is now really working on our waistlines with two-for-£10 on freakshakes and waffles on weekdays. Just order two the same shakes or waffles at the Oldham Street branch from Monday to Friday until December 31, 2017.
20. Swing badda badda badda
Beers and baseball - if golf, above, isn't your thing - make Base MCR the place for swinging times. Open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 11pm until its official Halloween launch party on Saturday October 28, bookings are half price (£12.50 per half hour) until then from basemcr.co.uk.
