A study from the The University of Reading found that drinking prosecco (in moderation) had the potential of beneficial effects for drinkers’ health.

And while experts continue to stress that people should drink responsibly, if you are going to have a tipple, prosecco may be your best bet.

1. Heart health

That recent study from The University of Reading discovered that drinking prosecco and champagne contains decent levels of polyphenols, which can be good for our blood.

Drinking a glass of bubbly apparently has a positive effect on the way blood vessels function which helps increase blood flow around our bodies.

This can prevent blood clots, as well as reduce the risks of suffering from cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and strokes.

2. Improves memory

Yes, you read that correctly; drinking alcohol could actually help you remember things.

It’s not something usually associated with booze but another scientific study from The University of Reading (we love those guys) has revealed that after drinking prosecco, spatial memory increased on average by 70%.

Spatial memory is the ability to recognise your surroundings, as well as perform complex tasks – again, not something we’d expect to improve after having a few bevvies.

Research also suggests that the bubbles can help reduce memory loss and help fight off dementia and other degenerative brain diseases.

3. Low in calories

Champagne and prosecco contains less calories than both red and white wine, with a standard glass containing just 80 calories, as opposed to wine which tends to hit the 120 calories mark per glass.

So drinking a few glasses of bubbly could actually help you lose weight; sounds like a no brainer to us.

4. Can prevent cancer

Prosecco and other sparkling wines are jam packed full of antioxidants, which can help prevent cancer.

Okay, we’re starting to think this may be the greatest drink ever invented.

5. Lowers risk of diabetes

A 2009 study in Canada revealed that Prosecco can lower your risk of contracting diabetes by up to 13 per cent.

And the great news is that the same goes for wine and champagne too!

6. Great for your skin

The same antioxidants in prosecco which can help prevent cancer, also help keep your skin nice and smooth.

For those prone to breakouts or acne, the ingredients in prosecco help to detoxify your skin and even out your complexion.

7. Helps fight off colds

This one is particularly useful during this time of year.

While a tipple might be the last thing on your mind if you’re suffering from a bunged up nose or a sore throat, it turns out that a glass of bubbly can really help.

A glass of prosecco can reportedly minimise your chances of developing a cold in the first place by 60 per cent.

8. Improves sex drive

Yes, prosecco can even make you better in the bedroom; is there anything these antioxidants can’t do?

According to a paper in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, drinking one or two glasses of prosecco before sex can heighten your libido.

It’s all down to the antioxidants which increase blood flow downstairs and help you to get more in the mood.

Perhaps the most important point of all; because if saving money isn’t good for your health, we don’t know what is.
