FATHER CHRISTMAS AT SALE WATERSIDE

Father Christmas

3-11 recommended ages

Waterside Arts Centre

5 -31 Dec

Pins and Needles presents…

Last year Waterside presented the sensational show Raymond Briggs’ The Bear. This year the same company return with another Raymond Briggs favourite: Father Christmas.

Step inside the bloomin’ brilliant world of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas this winter at Waterside.

Children of all ages will delight in Briggs’ grumpy but loveable Father Christmas as he gets ready for his busiest day of the year: Christmas Eve. Watch as he prepares his Christmas deliveries, feeds his reindeer and finally takes flight into the snowy night. But things don’t run smoothly and he soon encounters soot-covered chimneys to squeeze through and treacherous weather conditions, all while plenty of mischief is had by his cheeky pets, Cat and Dog.

With plenty of live music, songs and playful puppetry, this critically acclaimed adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ much loved book is a delightful festive treat for children to enjoy.

The Forest of Forgotten Discos!

Over 5s

Hope Mill for Contact Theatre Company and Jackie Hagan

11-23 Dec – 11AM, 2PM 7PM

There is a mystery in the forest – everyone has forgotten about dancing and bright lights and disco. Even Alexa – the virtual assistant from the Amazon Rainforest – can’t tell us why.

Meet Bear Hug, a creaky bear with a secret. Bear Minimum has a higgledy piggledy bedroom she can’t keep clean. Bear Grills just can’t keep his head cool. Until one day, Red (who is 7 and scared of nothing!) explodes on to the scene, changing the bears’ lives forever.

White

Ages 2-4

HOME

13-23 Dec 10.30 AM AND 1.30PM ( AND 4PM ON WEEKENDS)

Welcome to the beautifully strange world of White. Full of birdsong and birdhouses, it gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. Two friends look after the birds and make sure the eggs stay safe. We watch, we help. The world is bright, ordered and white.

But high up in the trees, something’s different – everything isn’t white. Colour appears. First red… then yellow… then blue…

White is a playful, highly visual show for very young children and is a perfect first time theatre experience.

Slapstick

All ages

HOME

13-22 Dec

Flying violins! Speed skating ballerinos! Winner of the 2017 Edinburgh Spirit of the Fringe Award, Släpstick is an ode to the timeless comedy of Charlie Chaplin, Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and Laurel & Hardy – with a very modern twist.

Släpstick fly in from the Netherlands with a unique mix of virtuoso live music and energetic physical comedy. With a flair for eccentricity and a hint of melancholy, the five world-class performers have mastered over 100 instruments between them. Släpstick is a perfect blend of dazzling musicianship, lung-bursting physical comedy and heartfelt nostalgia in the true ‘slapstick’ tradition.
