The First Teaser For Game Of Thrones Season Eight Has Just Dropped

After what feels like an eternity, HBO have finally announced a release date for season eight alongside a teaser clip that is sure to start building the excitement.

Well, when I say they have announced a date, I mean they have actually just told us what month to expect new episodes to be hitting our screens…April 2019.

That means the next episode is potentially only 138 days away!

The teaser itself doesn’t tell us too much about the upcoming season but it does reveal that we can expect to see bigger and bloodier battles than ever before. This is battle for the throne that we have been waiting for!

To coincide with the GOT hype that happening today because of this drop, we’ve been gifted with a reddit Ask Me Anything with longtime director David Nutter.

Nutter is the man behind some of the most game changing scenes such as the Red Wedding and the ‘death’ of Jon Snow. Damn you Nutter!

He is also the man behind the camera for half the impending final season, so he had A LOT to discuss on his AMA last night.

The Opening Episode will “Reset the table”

This is Nutters first time directing a premiere episode and he wanted to make a “splash”. However, with only 6 episodes left to tie everything up, it was important for Nutter to establish the playing field for the episodes ahead: “You have to reset the table, put everyone back in their place, you have to take them to their next position. But you have to entertain that’s what’s most important.”

The Direwolves are Back!

The purest character of the entire series have been the ones getting shockingly less and less screen time. It doesn’t help that a lot of them have been straight up murdered, but also because the GFX budget needed has needed to be used on other things like giant dead zombie dragons. Makes sense.

However, fans will absolutely froth on the information that there will be at least one Direwolf featuring in the upcoming episodes: “I have to say that you will see a Direwolf in season 8. That’s all I can say”.

The safe bet would be that Jon Snows oddly absent Dire Wolf, Ghost, will be returning. However, I want to throw it out there that Aryas missing Dire Wolf Nymeria and her wolf pack may make a surprise comeback.

Why It’s Taken So Long for a Release.

2018 has been an incredibly mundane year and I can only attribute this to one fact…there have been no new GOT episodes to keep us entertained. Instead we’ve had to fill the void with other shows that really don’t match up to GOT’s pervasive nature.

Now while HBO have given us a myriad of excuses as to why we’ve had to wait TWO years for a new season, Nutter has cut straight to the point: “Visual effects! Things take time my friends — they take a lot of time to create and GoT is the last place you’re going to find half-baked work so it’s all about making sure they fill the frame with as much capacity as possible”.

So we can expect to see unprecedented levels of everything GFX-related like Dragons, zombies, wildfire, direwolves, epic battles and much, much more.

The Books Have Very Little Impact on S8

So, as we know, George R.R. Martin has been a little lazy and not released a new book since A Song Of Ice and Fire, which got lapped by the TV version a couple seasons back. A bigger reveal, however, is that Nutter himself has never read any of the books as he prefers to work purely from the scripts: “To me, the script is the beginning, middle, and end. I don’t read the books because I don’t want to have a different opinion or different approach from something that actually is written”

The Series Finale will Take Fans into Consideration

When asked about the final GOT episode EVER, Nutter reveals the show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss absolutely nailed it! While he didn’t direct the episode, he has read the script and reckons we will have our minds completely blown:

“I think that David and Dan did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned. I guarantee there’s going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it’s really very compelling stuff.”
