A brand new foodie concept is now open in Manchester, bringing an exciting new menu for Mancs to try out.
Six By Nico, the brainchild of renowned Scottish-Italian chef Nico Simeone, has finally opened its doors – and the the first menu theme is a foodie’s dream.
We tried out its first menu offering, The Chippie. And yes, it is every bit as delicious as it sounds.
What’s the concept behind Six By Nico?
Every six weeks, Six By Nico serves a brand new six-course tasting-menu – each one themed upon a different place, memory or idea. So you and your mates could be trying a fresh menu with brand new dishes every time you dine.
The Spring Gardens restaurant is now serving The Chippie – a six course tasting menu based on your local chip shop.
We tried their own take on cheesy chips, as well as battered scampi (or cauliflower for veggies) and the famous deep. fried. mars bar.
What’s on the menu?
CHIPS & CHEESE – Parmesan Espuma, Curry Oil, Salt and Vinegar Potato Croquette.
SCAMPI – Monkfish Cheeks, Pea Emulsion, Herb Butter Sauce, Gribiche.
STEAK PIE – Beef Shin, Burnt Onion Ketchup, Mushroom Duxelle, Red Wine.
FISH SUPPER – Cod, Confit Fennel, Samphire, Beer Pickled Mussels, Brandade.
SMOKED SAUSAGE – Pork Belly, Salt Baked Celeriac, Caramelised Apple, Black Pudding.
DEEP FRIED MARS BAR– Caramelia Chocolate Mousse, Orange Sorbet, Cocoa Nib.
The new menu by Six By Nico will run until Sunday 18th August 2019, Tuesday to Sunday, and diners can book a table here.
So what’s it like?
We visited Six By Nico to get a feel for what Nico and his team have to offer. It’s refreshing to see the idea of fine dining turned on its head and given a casual twist. The menu isn’t expensive – six courses for £29 per person – and each dish is delicious and extensively thought out.
You feel as though you’re at a fancy, five-star hotel when you’re served a six course meal. In reality, you’re at a restaurant with your mates, enjoying some tasty food for a reasonable price.
There’s the option of pairing the tasting menu with a specially selected wine menu. For an additional £26, you get a glass of wine for each food course.
Each wine is chosen by Nico and the team to match the flavours of each dish. And if you’re not feeling the meat or fish options, you can swap to their vegetarian menu, or interchange between the two.
Plus, the deep fried mars bar is to die for. You don’t need to ask me again.
