JUB, formally Vivid, is rather unknown unless you are lucky enough to live with this as your local.

This little waterside spot between the canal and Great Ancoat’s street is a rather unassuming location for what is without doubt the best Thai food I’ve eaten outside of Thailand.

It has recently undergone a refurb and looks as stylish as ever, with its pastel colours and geometric patterns.

JUB has gone head first into the 21st century with their brand new app, which allows you to order your food to stay or take away without even leaving the table (or home). So, on a rare sunny day in Manchester we took our seat outside and did just that.

The menu is plentiful and all made to order. Like a good Thai food, it comes when ready so there is less of the starter and main mentality that you may be used to.

It’s fair to say we may have over ordered, indulging in their sweetcorn fritters, crispy chicken and their special – prawn dumplings.

The Corn Fritters are perfect for meat lovers and vegetarians alike, and are definitely my favourite from their menu. They are sweet and sticky and have the perfect amount of crunch, whilst being laced in homemade chilli sauce.

The crispy chicken is melt in the mouth, and the prawn dumplings with a dipping sauce are incredibly tasty that I hope they become a permanent fixture.

Onto the large plates. Sadly, JUB had run out of their famous Beef Massaman curry, but this did give us a chance to try something different off the menu.

Opting for a fish and a meat dish, we went for the pan fried fish with red curry paste and herbs and the spicy pork ribs curry and rice. Both were served beautifully and garnished with chillis, which gave the dishes an extra kick.

The ribs were cooked to perfection, falling off the bone into the delicious curry sauce. They gave a whole new meaning to ‘melt in my mouth’. The Pan Fried Fish had the perfect punch of spiciness paired with the fragrant herbs and spices that are most likely kept under lock and key. And for good reason!

JUB isn’t just the best Thai restaurant in the city. It is easily the best quality, mid-priced restaurant you’ll find in Manchester.

To see their offering search Jub Thai on your app store and you will also get £5 off your first visit!
