In the wake of everyone’s favourite creepy-stalker Netflix drama ‘YOU’, a freaky new dating trend appears to have emerged.
Say hello to ‘Freeclimbing’…
According to the website thetalko, the phrase ‘Freeclimbing’ refers to “the act of searching through a dating prospect’s social media accounts and going backward in their history. This is characteristically dangerous, just as freeclimbing is, hence the term.”
Um, I think it’s safe to say a few of us may be guilty of this…
Even more disturbingly, a recent survey on social media usage found that:
- 1 in 5 of us don’t even know if our social media profiles are open to the public
- Of those that do have their social media social profiles open publicly, millennials lead the way
- 30% of people use social media to find out more about a potential love interest
- Millennials (46%), are the most likely to use social media to find out about a love interest
That besides, the phenomenon of social media stalking is consistently trending on Twitter…
Are you guilty of freeclimbing, and do you think it’s a rightly accepted norm or needs to be stopped? Let us know in the comments!
