Here Are 7 Of Zippy The Giant Santa's Greatest Moments

We'll miss you Zippy!

Zippy

Due to renovations at Albert Square Town Hall, the Christmas Markets will be relocating in 2019 for up to 4 years - and everybody's favourite giant Santa, Zippy, might not be joining them.

For the last 11 years, Zippy has been an icon of Christmas time in Manchester.

No matter how busy, wet, or even how open the Christmas Markets are - he’s sat there, chilling. Looking mighty big and festive.

Unfortunately, this won’t be the case for at least the next 4 years. With the markets relocating due to renovation work at the Town Hall, Zippy won’t be making an appearance at Albert Square for the foreseeable future.

It is currently unclear if he will be moving with the markets, with the sheer size of him allegedly making things difficult.

So what better time than the present to look back at 7 of his finest moments?

1.

At night, amidst the hustle and bustle of the weekend.

2.

In the day, enjoying some rare blue sky.

3.

An evening shot with a lovely filter.

4.

Here he is - the perfect background for your Christmas Market mugshot.

5.

He’s off his head! Being put together back in 2016.

6.

The rascal’s been messing around with the lights!

Known affectionately as Zippy, Manchester’s much-loved Santa may not be making another appearance in the city for quite some time. Albert Square’s Town Hall is undergoing major renovation work, resulting in the market relocating elsewhere for at least the next four years with no decision on what will happen to Zippy. Here is my tribute to the Albert Square market and Zippy.
