Those of you lacking imagination in the dating department, rejoice! Once again, we’re here to make you look good.

Why not try something a little bit different for your next date night, be it a beautiful cocktail in the warmth of a luxurious outdoor heater – 20 storeys up, or a proper Italian cooking class at one of Manchester’s finest restaurants?

We’ve collated a list of the very best options here in Manchester so you can pick whichever ones tickle your fancy and pass them off as your own ideas.

We won’t tell if you don’t.

1. Ascend to new heights

Despite only having been open for a matter of months, new restaurant and sky-high bar 20 Stories is already getting a rip-roaring reputation in and around the city.

And it’s not too hard to see why…

2. Do an Italian cooking class at Salvi’s Mozzarella at the Corn Exchange

Don’t let the word “class” put you off, you’d be surprised at how much fun this is.

You’ll be thrown in the deep end (in a good way) by a chef as you get straight down to the business of making your very own authentic Italian pasta (while enjoying a glass of prosecco and antipasti, of course.) Don’t worry if you think you’ll do poorly, stumbling your way through the experience is all part of the fun.

And if you manage to improve your other half’s cooking skills in the process, well, that’s just a happy side effect.

Our advice? Book ahead, budget in for it as a real sweet treat (we won’t lie, it’s not cheap) and blow their cotton socks off big time.

3. Catch a film at the Savoy Theatre

If you haven’t managed to get a ticket to this classy picture house yet, you need to correct that posthaste.

This ’20-style venue is unquestionably the fanciest cinema in town. With its glitzy furnishings, cocktail lounge and large comfortable sofas made for two, a visit here is very much an event.

5. Pop into Hold Fast

This barcade is one of the city’s most unique establishments.

We’re talking classic video games, a wide selection of bevvies and well-spent hours of fun as you go hell for leather on Mario Kart while enjoying some of the best craft beer available in this city.

6. Play boardgames in Ziferblat

This place is one of our favourites things about the Northern Quarter.

The bar is mostly known for its ‘pay for the time you spend there’ feature (you literally pay by the minute and help yourself to as much food, drinks and cake as you like) but if that isn’t enough for ya they’ve also got a bookcase positively overflowing with boardgames that are just waiting to be played with.

7. Finally book a table at The French

This place ain’t cheap but if you’re a foodie and you’ve got a reason to celebrate, why not treat yourself to one of the classiest venues in town?

As you’d expect, the restaurant’s offerings are dripping with decadence, with their nine-course menu boasting dishes like fried cavolo, scallop, beef and onion broth and white chocolate and sea buckthorn pudding.

Why not show your other half how the other half live?

8. Split your sides at The Frog and Bucket

There’s no one among us who couldn’t do with more laughter in their lives, so give this comedy night a go if you haven’t done so already.

Taking place every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, The Frog and Bucket always manages to draw a full house for an evening of stand-up from local comedians.

There’s a fully-stocked bar and if you pre-order you can get pizzas and meals delivered to your table too.

A cracking night not to be missed, just be prepared for you and your date to be ripped 😉

9. Enjoy High Tea at Grand Pacific

For the sophisticates among you.

Have a five-star experience with afternoon tea in the Rose Room at Grand Pacific, the cakes taste as good as they look and the cocktails are delightfully arty. It’s all very la-di-da. An absolute treat for the senses.

If you’d like to give afternoon tea at Grand Pacific a try, book a table here.

10. Go on the Manchester Gin Tasting Trail

Does an afternoon spent sampling speciality gins sound good to you? We figured as much.

As well as gaining an understanding of how gin’s diverse flavours are concocted, throughout the tour you’ll be offered complimentary drinks, from the perfect serve G&T to classic cocktails, before finally letting you loose on the mini copper pot stills where you will create your very own personalised bottle of gin to take home!

You can book your place on the gin tour here.

11. Take a Manchester Rum Cruise

Gin not floating your boat?

Jump aboard one of these boats and set sail for a different perspective of Manchester, taking in the sights while enjoying Carribean soul food by Jerk Shack – all washed down with seven different rum-based cocktails. There are Christmas ones upcoming too 😉
