So you’re absolutely STARVIN’ and you’re looking for a lunch that will put those soggy ham sarnies you’ve been eating all week to shame, I got you.

I’ve often planned to meet a group of friends on Market Street for lunch – it’s easy to get to, it’s got lots of choice and it’s usually an equal distance for all of us to get to from work/college/our gaffs. Problem is, every time I wind up there, my friends look to me for lunch inspiration and I blank. When hunger takes over, it can be hard to think of somewhere really f*ckin’ good.

So here it is, the Market Street lunch gospel… you’re welcome!

1. Federal

Just a few minutes walk up from Debenhams is a healthy little café that takes only the finest locally-sourced produce and turns it into a mouth-watering treat. If you’re looking for bagel stacked up to the eyeballs with hearty filling (the hummus and falafel wrap with cucumber and spinach is my personal fave) or a hearty salad with a bit of character, this is the place for you.

The café gets a lot of insta-attention and looking at the food it’s easy to see why, but unlike those places that are all fur coat and no knickers, the quality and taste is top-notch here too.

2. West Corner

About two minutes walk from Piccadilly Gardens you’ll find this little gem.

West Corner serve up whopper salads, burgers, hot sandwiches and they also cater for vegans (The Picudas sweet potato patty burger is literally insane) so they’ve got a little something for everyone. It’s hidden on Hilton Street away from all the usual hustle and bustle so it’s the ideal place to escape reality for half hour.

3. Bundobust

You can’t argue with how good the grub here is.

Top class, every time.

4. The Earth Cafe

A vegetarian and plant-based food and juice bar that will keep you going for the whole day.

The Earth Cafe and ethical cafe serve the best spicy bean stew and sweet potato pie you’ll ever try tbh. The perfect lunch solution for if you want to try something a little different. Plus it’s healthy so that’s an added bonus.

Get in my belly.

5. Shoryu Ramen

This place serves some of my favourite ramen in the country – the curried karai chicken.

It’s quick, it’s got some deadly dishes and you get to practice your chopstick #skillz, what’s not to like?

It’s a little on the pricey side but there’s a big long table in the centre of the restaurant so it’s a nice treat for big groups, once you get in there before the crowds arrive that is.

6. Fusion Lab

Lunch goals.

7. Viet Shack

The ultimate spot for a sensational sandwich. The quack burger is the one you want.

Viet Shack in Manchester’s Arndale is a small but mighty spot that you need to put on your lunchin’ bucket list.

8.  Smokeshed

The wonderful, brightly coloured café that is Smokeshed is one of our absolute faves.

These guys are masters of their trade and will satisfy your lunch cravings to no end. Their soft shell crab with guacamole and dijon yoghurt is what dreams are made of – juicy and full of deeelish flavour.

9. Go Falafel

Unbelievable wraps, salads and juices for a healthy choice that’s satisfying too… need I say any more?

10. Fig & Sparrow

Smoked salmon, avo, mouth-watering cake. It has everything you need for the ultimate dream lunch.
